Not all jewellery is made to be worn everyday and thus requires some love and attention to keep your piece looking its best. Make sure your jewellery is the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you take off when returning home. Avoid contact with any chemicals such as cosmetics, lotions, bleach and perfumes as these can be harmful to your jewellery and cause tarnishing.

Clean your jewellery after wearing with a soft cloth before putting it away. This will remove the oils from your skin which will help to prevent tarnishing and any build up of dirt. A toothbrush and some warm soapy water is the best way to brighten up silver and gold jewellery and make your diamonds sparkle again.

Avoid wearing your jewellery at the beach or in chlorinated pools and do not sleep in your jewellery, this causes unnecessary stress on components making them more likely to break. Store your jewellery in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight and in separate pouches to avoid scratching. If your precious piece contains stones it is a good idea to examine them regularly to make sure the settings are secure.

All Mia Chicco jewels with opals are made to be worn as occasional pieces of jewellery due to the delicate nature of the stone. If looked after properly they will last a life time however if they are dropped or bashed around they can chip or crack. Sudden changes in temperature can also damage opals so don’t wear your piece whilst doing the dishes, showering or leave it in direct sunlight.
